Eerily so. However, the cat's of SmokeClan were used to this. They reveled in the dark. It was their greatest strength. Our greatest weapon. he thought. Blinking his blue eyes into the shadows he looked around, weary. He had decided to go out of camp for some night hunting. So far though, nothing had turned up. Flexing his claws with irritation he headed towards a nearby stream and waded in, letting his paws soak in the water. While typically only MistClan cat's like water, Duskstar did enjoy it every once in a while.
He stood in the stream and looked up to the sky. Above his silverpelt glittered brightly and warmth spread over him. He smiled lightly, thinking of Clawstar. He wondered if his old friend was looking down on him even now. The old tom was always such a stick in the mud, but he was loyal to the end of his days, and Duskstar admired him for that. Sighing he padded from the steam and shook his fur, sending water droplet's everywhere. The new-leaf night was cool and he was now a bit chillier than he would have liked.
Shrugging it off he turned towards the marshland, hoping that perhaps he might find an unlucky frog or a lizard. Already he could hear their familiar croaks, and the sounds of crickets as they fled from the frogs long and sticky tongues. Duskstar grinned as he spotted one, it's green skin black in the night. Keeping himself hidden among the shadows he crept along as noiselessly as possible.
The frog never stood a chance.
It barely had time to make a jump for it before Duskstar's claws fastened into the slimy skin. Grunting with satisfaction he picked it up and took it over to a bramble to hide it for the time being. By now the frogs had all stopped creating racket, though the crickets chirps were louder. Then they too went silent. Flicking his ears he tasted the air and realized the reason for their sudden disappearance. A familiar scent wafted towards him and he smiled. "Squirrelfire, how long have you been out here?" he purred.

So maybe sleeping wasn’t the greatest idea in the world right now, it seemed no matter how hard she tried to fall asleep her mind just continued to wander farther and farther away and think about things she should be doing. The she-cat had finally come to the decision of just going on a walk away from everything. The difficult task was getting out of the den without her siblings knowing. The four of them had always been so close, sharing nests as apprentices, and when Squirrelfire had joined them in the warriors den, her nest was made right beside theirs. She didn’t have a choice even if she had wanted to, her brothers and sister were adamant that she would stay there so they could keep an eye on her. What they just couldn’t grasp was that she was clearly old enough to sleep on her own without them being so overprotective. But she wouldn’t argue with them, they had been with her through everything.
Sighing deeply she made her way around her siblings (they tended to sleep around her), and out of the den, and almost let out a yowl of excitement. This was a first, her being able to sneak by them. With a grin on her face she took off into the territory, maybe a good run would help her fall asleep. Squirrelfire slowed her pace down as she glanced around and saw a large wad of moss nearby. Shuddering the she-cat went quickly by it. No way was she going to collect that, the kits would just have fun with that. And they would thank her….which meant she would have to go into the nursery. No thank you. Going in there was worse than receiving an injury and not being able to do her job for a moon. Never would she be a queen, that was for sure, who would want her for a mother anyway?
Getting rid of the thoughts of the nursery was what she needed, some sort of distraction. And that came in the form of finding the scent of Duskstar. Now what was he doing out here? It wasn’t odd for a cat to be out here at this time of night, but still her curiosity was sparked. Following the scent, she watched the tom catch the frog and grinned slightly. Well that would certainly help out the fresh-kill pile, it was looking quite scrawny. When the tom acknowledge her presence she couldn’t help but have a small smile form on her face. ”Long enough to see you are losing your touch. Only one frog, Duskstar, surely the big bad leader of SmokeClan would catch more than one measly frog?”
